General Information
Q: What is SID?
A: SID is an assisted EFT (electronic funds transfer) which allows you
to make payment directly to a merchant using your existing Internet
banking facility.
If you have never used SID before, you will be asked to run the
application. You will then be directed to your chosen bank site where
you can login to make payment. The merchant’s banking details will be
pre-populated on the payments page. Once you have completed the payment
and received the receipt, your order will be fulfilled straight away
without having to fax the confirmation to the merchant.
A credit card is not required!
Q: Why choose SID?
A: SID is a great way to shop online if you don’t have a credit card
or prefers not to use them.
When you use SID to complete your purchase everything is done within
the security of your Internet banking and you never exposing your
personal banking information to the merchant or SID.
Q: How does SID work?
- Choose to pay with SID wherever you see the SID payment option.
- Select your bank and follow the prompts to install the SID
Application.
- SID will guide you through the Once-Off payment process of your
existing Internet Banking facility.
Q: Is there any cost for using SID?
A: We do not charge you for making a SID payment, although your bank may
apply fees for electronic funds transfers.
Q: Who can use SID?
A: Anyone who has access to the Internet Banking facility from the
following banks can use SID:
- ABSA
- First National Bank
- Nedbank
- Standard Bank
SID uses the "Once-off Payment" facility of Internet Banking, so you
must have this facility activated with enough money in your bank account
to cover the payments you intend to make. The payment amount must also
be less than any "Once-off Payment" limits enforced by your Internet
Banking facility.
Q: Where can I shop with SID?
A: You can use SID on any website that displays the SID logo. You simply
select SID as your payment option; it calls up your regular Internet
Banking once-off payment screen and automatically fills in the
merchant's payment details and the amount of the purchase. Then you
simply click "Pay" to complete the purchase.
Security
Q: Is SID secure?
A: SID uses the most advanced security features available on the
Internet and although SID invokes your Internet Banking service, it does
not access or store your Internet Banking identifier or password. These
are entered directly into your Internet Banking log on screen using the
usual security provided by your bank.
Q: Is SID approved by my bank?
A: SID is brought to you by Setcom (Pty) Ltd, an independent provider of
innovative web-based transaction services including credit and debit
card payments. Setcom is not a bank, and does not have relationships
with banks accessible via SID.
Q: How are my bank account details kept secure?
A: Your bank account access information such as usernames and passwords
are not captured or stored by SID or the merchant website. One time PIN
(OTP), Random Verification Number (RVN) or access token provided by your
bank is still required.
Your session occurs directly between your PC and your bank in the same
way as if you had logged into your bank's Internet Banking system
separately from any SID transaction.
SID just automates the process of filling in all of the payment
details for you.
SID may store your bank account number for refund purposes. However,
no third party can access or operate your Internet Banking facilities
based on this information, or any other information retained by SID.
Q: My bank's terms and conditions say that I am not
allowed to disclose my password to any other third party. Can I still
use SID?
A: Yes. With SID you are logging into your bank’s Internet Banking
website directly therefore not disclosing your password to a third
party.

Troubleshooting
Q: I can't log in to FNB, what do I do?
A: On the FNB homepage, click on "Login problems" link (just below the
login button) and follow the instructions on how to fix the problem.
Q: SID hangs on Commencing Transaction, how do I
fix this?
If you are experiencing this problem then please download SID Trusted Site Tool and run the
application.
Q: Why does my transaction get cancelled?
If the date and time on your computer is set incorrectly then SID
will cancel the transaction. Please make sure that your date, time and
time-zone (GMT) are set correctly. SID will cancel any payment made
whereby the time is not within a reasonable time frame between your
computer and Setcom’s server. If you are living in South Africa, please
make sure your time-zone is set to (GMT+02:00) Harare, Pretoria. You can
check your date settings by right clicking in the bottom right hand
corner of your screen on the time and then click properties. For
time-zone settings, please click on the “Time Zone” tab and use the drop
down list accordingly.
For the correct time, if you live in South Africa, you can dial
1026 to obtain the current time.
